The Parliamentary Ombudsman is very concerned about the situation of isolated inmates at Ila Detention and Security Prison
After a visit to Ila Detention and Security Prison, the Parliamentary Ombudsman takes a very serious view of the fact that persons with mental disorders are isolated for prolonged periods.
Built garden in the exercise yard in response to the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s report
‘We found money we didn’t really have and it was worth every penny,' says Prison Governor Nils Leyell Finstad about Bredtveit Prison’s main exercise yard. Following the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s recommendation to improve the conditions in the exercise yard, the inmates have taken part in planning and creating a garden that blooms from spring until late autumn – and they have received certificates of competence from the landscape gardening firm.

Letter from European NPMs underlines the importance of NPM-led networks
On 30 May 2017 a number of European NPMs sent a letter to the Council of Europe, the EU and the OSCE.
The Klokkergården Collective
The Klokkergården Collective in Hedmark, which treats young people with substance abuse and behavioural problems, uses disturbing methods, according to a report from the Parliamentary Ombudsman following a visit to the institution in June this year.
‘The pressure put on young people through the Collective's use of involuntary motivational trips is a cause for concern,’ says Parliamentary Ombudsman Aage Thor Falkanger.
