The assignment of the Parliamentary Ombudsman is to supervise public administration agencies. This supervisory role is intended to contribute towards ensuring that there is no injustice against individual citizens on the part of public authorities. Investigations are primarily implemented on the basis of complaints from the general public, but the Ombudsman may also raise issues on his own initiative. The Ombudsman may carry out investigations and has the right to give an opinion. The public administration agencies invariably comply with the Ombudsman’s recommendations, but are not legally under obligation to do so.
